Most foreign citizens are required to obtain a tourist visa in advance when traveling to Vietnam, except for those from countries granted visa exemptions. As of August 15, citizens from the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Russia, Belarus, Japan, and South Korea can stay visa-free for up to 45 days upon arrival. These travelers may also apply for visa issuance or temporary residence extensions according to regulations. Citizens of ASEAN countries remain eligible for a 30-day visa exemption, except for those from the Philippines (21 days) and Brunei & Myanmar (14 days).
There are currently three ways to obtain a visa. Travelers arriving in Vietnam by air can apply for a Visa on Arrival (VOA) through a travel agent, receiving an approval letter that allows them to obtain a visa and entry stamp upon arrival at one of the six international airports. This is the fastest and most cost-effective option but is only available for air travelers. Another option is to apply for a visa in advance through a Vietnamese embassy or consulate. Alternatively, travelers from all nationalities can apply for an e-visa, which is valid for 90 days and allows both single and multiple entries.
Since travel policies are subject to change, it’s recommended to check the official government website for the most up-to-date regulations before your visit: https://www.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/.
